Update 1.5.1 available for Knitting Chart Editor

An update for the Knitting Chart Editor is now available.

To install this update;-

  1. Start up the Knitting Chart Editor.
  2. Select Tools > Install updates from the main menu.
  3. The software checks for available updates and shows a dialog box listing the available updates. Select version 1.5.1 and follow the prompts.
  4. When prompted about certificates, select the Eclipse certificate and reply ok. All of the software code is ‘digitally signed’ to show that the software has not been tampered with. The certificates are either from The Eclipse Foundation (www.eclipse.org) or Cathy Scott of StitchMastery (www.stitchmastery.com).

There may be a warning that there is an unsigned feature called com.stitchmastery.chartEditor.feature. This warning is nothing to worry about and can be safely ignored as all of the contents of the feature have been signed. The StitchMastery Knitting Chart Editor is composed of a collection of ‘plug-ins’. A ‘feature’ is a subset of those plugins. The feature mentioned is the set of all plugins that contain code specific to the Knitting Chart Editor. All of the plugins in the software, including those in the com.stitchmastery.chartEditor.feature have been ‘digitally signed’ so that you can be sure that they contain authentic code that has not been tampered with since signing.

To verify the signatures of the installed code;-

    1. Select Tools > About Knitting Chart Editor from the main menu. The ‘About Knitting Chart Editor dialog’ opens.
    2. Select ‘Installation Details’. The ‘Knitting Chart Editor Installation Details dialog’ opens.
    3. Select the Plug-ins tab.
    4. Select ‘Show Signing Info’.
  5. When prompted be sure to agree to the restart of the software so that the new update is incorporated properly.

Update 1.5.1 implemented the following features / fixed the following bugs;-

  • The Text Input feature has been replaced by a new feature that allows the user to input a set of written instructions and use it to generate a chart from scratch. An editor is provided for written instructions that parses the written instructions and generates a ‘knitting model’ of the instructions. Written instructions need to be entered in a format that is understandable by the software. Content Assist, Auto-Completion and error messages all help the user to do this. Full details of how to use this feature are provided in the help files which can be accessed by selecting Help > Help Contents from the main menu. Within the help files select Tasks > Working with Text Input
  • Customizations to the stitch library in the form of either a new custom stitch, user edits to an existing stitch or changes to the palette drawers are now all stored in one file so that this file can be easily backed up. This file is called user_stitch_libary.xmi and is currently stored in the ‘user.home’ location. Typically the ‘user.home’ location is c:/users/userid (Windows) or /users/userid/ (Mac) where userid is the userid on that machine. In future updates users will be able to specify the location of this file.
  • The Palette which displays the stitch library in a collection of drawers at the side of the drawing canvas has now been moved to a separate view. this is especially useful for editing large charts where the user has scrolled to the bottom of the drawing area in order to edit the bottom of a chart. As the Palette is now in a separate view it is not scrolled, meaning easier access to stitch drawers.
  • When a chart is set for flat knitting and a new stitch is added to the key, the software checks if the Right Side (RS) and Wrong Side (WS) instructions are identical. If so, then only a single set of instructions are added to the new key entry. For example, ‘yo’ instead of ‘RS: yo {newline}WS: yo’.
  • The Repeat menu is now always visible when the chart editor is active. Items on the Repeat Menu are also visible but only enabled when they a valid actions, for example when stitches are selected in a chart.
  • The chart title can now be directly edited in the drawing area.
  • Fixed a bug in the Customize Stitch Appearance dialog where non-StitchMastery fonts were not correctly displayed.
  • Fixed a bug in the Export to Image feature where jpeg images were not correctly exported if the scaling was anything other than 100%.
  • Fixed a bug which caused text clipping of key entries.
  • Fixed a bug which caused a memory leak when chart diagram file closed.
  • Fixed a bug where the Insert Chart feature always created a circular chart. It now listens to users.
